GPS Collars : Unique and Innovative Features
All collars use wireless or cell phone communication to setup and download data. Three variants are available: AgTraX™, WildTraX™, CellTraX™
Electronics
- 16 channel receiver GPS Processor .
- Estimate of accuracy provided for each location.
- Up to 65,000 locations in standard format or 4000 locations in RINEX format.
- U/VHF radio beacon for traditional radio tracking.
- Ambient temperature sensor accurate to 0.1oC.
- Activity sensor measuring the head up and head down in the pitch and roll planes ± 4°.
Housing
Made using aviation grade carbon fibre and titanium screws, the housing is ultra lightweight and is IP68 rated: totally protected against dust and immersion in water to >10m depth. Two different sized housings are available. The small collar range comes with two different sized PowerPaX™ (S4 and S8) while the larger collar range comes with three different sized PowerPaX™ (L6, L12 and L18).
Power
Power is provided by user changeable 1.5V AA batteries The battery packs, known as PowerPaX™ come in five different sizes. S4, S8, L6, L12 and L18 and use 4, 8, 6, 12 or 18 AA 1.5V batteries respectively. For each PowerPax, a variety of options are available.
- Batteries can be inserted by the user minimising running costs. Duracell Ultra batteries can be used where costs are critical, but lightweight Lithium Energiser e2 batteries can be used, providing double the power of Duracell and will function down to -40°C.
- Alternatively rechargeable batteries can be inserted by the user which provides reassurance against battery leakage where ambient temperatures are in excess of 45°C.
- Finally, power packs can be purchased pre-sealed and are ideal for long term studies.
