BlueSky Telemetry™ DataTrax™ software has been designed to maximize the potential of wildlife telemetry GPS collars. The features available allow biologists to be flexible in programming their GPS receiver, UHF beacon, UHF two-way radio and GSM communication schedules. GPS precision and accuracy can be programmed to enable precise and accurate location data, while temperature and activity sensors can all be calibrated. For ease of use, the software comes pre-installed on a laptop running Microsoft ® Windows ® XP. Therefore, all of the problems associated with different PC manufacturers, platforms and Microsoft ® Windows ® operating systems are eliminated. The software has been designed to make the process as easy as possible for the user, and the collars will work “out of the box”, once batteries have been fitted. Prior to shipment all collars are thoroughly tested and the data collected is downloaded onto the PC. The customer therefore has the reassurance that the package (including laptop, software and collars) are fully functional upon receipt.
The software does not need a high end computer to function and can be purchased as a stand alone product. Indeed, the software is provided on a 3.5” floppy diskette that can be copied onto any PC without requiring complex installation or shield packages. This makes the software ideal for use in projects that do not have access to expensive computer systems, where remoteness limits the power demands of computer systems, or where the necessary computer power has already been purchased.
